Showa Kinen Park is holding an international exchange exhibition of young Japanese and American artists, based on the theme of nature and cultural differences. Consisting of young artists in their 20s and 30s who consider the nature of art and express themselves mainly by writing newspapers, the group's first project will use newspapers to put it "in communication with artists in San Francisco". The title of this exhibition is "Listening X a promise to listen to your words". The word "Listening" consists of both the words "listening" and "is" and the title represents the organization's belief in always being here to listen to your words.
Most of the artists involved deal with time-based art works such as performance, installation, sound and video art and their creativity seems to be inspired by a desire for an unknown future. Furthermore, their activities seem to suggest ways to live in contemporary society. In asking themselves how can art deal with the current global situation, they produce their newspaper so as to foster an international relationship of "listening and talking" between the two cities. Usually, a newspaper only carries local news, which is useful only for a specific region or community. However, through this project the local topics we deal with can turn into global insights. This group aims to make use of the character of the newspaper in a way that will make people more conscious about what the function of art in our society is.
