The Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido
This event has ended.
At Ota Memorial Museum of Art
Media: Prints
In under a quarter of a century, Hiroshige Utagawa gave birth to a multitude of Tokaido series, woodblock prints series inspired by the landscapes he witnessed while travelling up and down the famous Tokaido road between Nihonbashi in Tokyo, and Kyoto.
150 prints were carefully selected from nine representative series for this exhibition. They will be displayed by station and in two parts:
the first leg of Tokaido, Nihon-bashi to Kakegawa, in June and Fukuro to Sanjo Ohashi in Kyoto in July. Twenty sketches of notable sites and landscapes will also be exhibited.
