The Musée d'Orsay, located next to the Seine River, was initially built for the Paris EXPO in 1900, then officially established in 1986 through refurbishing the defunct Orsay station. Since then, it has shared equal popularity with the Louvre Museum, located across the river, and is especially famous for its Impressionist collection.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the museum, the collection was introduced to Japanese audiences for the first time in 1996 in the "Musée d'Orsay - Modernity: Paris, the birth of the modern age" exhibition (Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum), and was followed by the "Musée d'Orsay - Dream and Reality in the 19th century" (National Museum of Western Art) in 1999. This 3rd exhibition commemorates the 20th anniversary of Musée d'Orsay by bringing you the collection of best works to date.

The exhibition features artists from the 19th century, who especially focused on the image of 'paradise'; land, people, and environments that they continued to love during rapid urbanization and industrialization. The 140 featured works not only include Musée d'Orsay's representative works, but also consist of new paintings, sculptures, drawings, photos, crafts, architectural sketches, and so on.

Split into 5 sections - Intimate time, Special place, Far Away, Life of Artists, To a Fantasy World - this exhibition will bring an entirely different perspective from the past 2 Musée d'Orsay shows.
