The Prado Museum of Fine Art in Madrid, Spain, is a world-class museum which has an unparalleled collection of paintings owned by successive generations of the Spanish royal family.
The works on show in this exhibition have been specially chosen from this extraordinary collection, and they include 81 masterpieces by 52 painters from 16th to 18th century Spain, Italy and the Flandre region, notably Velasquez, El Greco, Murillo, Titian and Goya. The works on show are the pieces which best represent the whole of the collection held by the museum.
The highlights of this show are 4 works of Italian Renaissance master Titian, including "Venus Delighting herself with Love and Music"; 5 works by Velasquez, the magician of light and colour; 3 works by Rubens, the star of the Baroque period; and 7 works by Goya, the revolutionary of aesthetics.
Part 1 of this exhibition is about the golden age of Spanish painting; part 2 about 16th and 17th century Italian painting; part 3 about painting in Flandre, France and Holland; part 4 about 18th century Court painting; and part 5 about Goya's work. This exhibition is an opportunity to feel as though you are in the Prado Museum itself.
