In 1952, Taro Okamoto 'discovered' a piece of earthenware from the Jyomon period inside the museum. He declared it to be a piece of ancient art, instead of just the archeological finding that it was considered to be up until then. This exhibition is a collection of works by Okamoto and 14 other artists that contain the beauty of ancient plastic arts and the feeling that Okamoto calls "fourth dimension".

出品作家14人中9人が出席したレセプションでした。この展覧会は、オーストリアのグラーツとスペインのビゴー現代美術館で開催された日本EU交流年企画「日本の知覚展」の帰国展です。会場構成、展示とももう少し各人の分量が欲しいところですが、それをおいても優れた現代美術展の一つであるといえるでしょう。

キュレーター伊藤俊治による15作家の先頭が岡本太郎なのです。岡本太郎は、石垣島や日本各地で取材した白黒写真の展示です。「いやったらしさ」こそ芸術の本来であるとした岡本を日本の現代美術の始まりと位置づける企画について、私自身はもっと読み込む必要があります。
私は、出品者の森脇裕之氏、須田悦弘氏と面識があり、それ故に少し複雑な心境です。

展示では、笠原恵実子の金髪インスタレーション「ラ・シャルム」、やなぎみわのゼラチンシルバーポイントと映像インスタレーション「Girls in Her Sand」、中村哲也のスーパーカー漆「プレミアムユニットシリーズ」に注目しました。
でも、なぜか感銘という点では、新人ではない岡本太郎と中平卓馬の写真シリーズに強く感じ入りました。それは一体なぜでしょう。さらに考える必要がありそうです。
