The Japan Art Institute was established as a research group into Nihonga (Japanese style painting) in 1898 by Tenshin Okakura and Gaho Hashimoto. Maintaining its basis on the tradition of Asian painting, the group developed the art of the era and gave new life to Nihonga painting.

This exhibition brings together 92 works by the artists who were part of this group.
