Since the establishment of the Kuramata Design Office on November 1st 1965, Shiro Kuramata has been well known for his poetic and ingenious ideas presented through works of space and furniture design. Through the 1960s to the 1990s, not only domestically but internationally, he has been regarded as one of the most prominent designers / artists of the late 20th century. The elaborate and somewhat chic works by Kuramata make a statement towards people living today and present a flawless conception of applied art through his imaginative approach in using revolutionary materials and by projecting mental strength into his works.
Liberated Zone- A universal idea of art, which arises as a consequence of the crossing of boundaries. We would like you to witness the start of a new -Liberated Zone-, through the works of Shiro Kuramata, which transcending time, continues to shine brightly.
