Kozo Miyoshi is one of Japan's representative contemporary photographers. "Travels deliver my photographs", says Miyoshi. He drives his car all over the country and takes photographs of things that fascinate him, quickly setting his 8x10-inch large format camera. He has used a large format camera continually for over a quarter of a century. "These moments will never move on, but time passes and the views change. I will keep traveling," says Miyoshi. He exposes what he sees, such as the "change of time" that lies deep in the Japanese landscape and the "spirituality" of people in Japan. These photographs reverberate through viewers’ subconscious awareness and bring about a comfortable tension and calmness. 8x10-inch negative films are said to be large enough for contact printing, however, Miyoshi prefers to enlarge images to 20x24-inches. The height of the pile of the thousands of negatives he has accumulated is higher than his height now. This exhibition "Somewhere, Sometime" displays selected images from around Japan from these huge volumes of negatives. 40 breathtaking gelatin silver prints are shown.
