Japanese people regard clean water as one of their country's great assets. The expression "scenic beauty" conjures up images in which the water emerges from underground springs, into nature. However, with the development of industrial production, mountains and trees have been razed and this has changed the quality of the water in the rivers and the sea. The people of past eras would probably be surprised and sad to hear that we buy drinking water. Through the activities of environment protection groups who strive to protect Japan's water sources, the quality of Japan's rivers has been restored to a degree and with this theme of "clean water" being adopted for this exhibition, the work of nature photographer Nobuyuki Takahashi will be on display. The 30 works exhibited in this show depict the pure water of the Niyodo River that runs through Kochi Prefecture, and reveal another dimension not normally visible to the eye, in which the wealth of nature's energy and expressiveness has been put into focus. In addition, there will be three sculptural works by Kazumasa Ohira.
