At Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art

Children go through the same picture books over and over again, finding details that adults would easily miss. For children who remember such details, original illustration must look even more interesting. Original illustrations for picture books are done in watercolor, oil painting, collage, and mixed media and they vary in media and styles.
This exhibition has been organized with the special contribution of the Miyagi Museum of Art, which holds the largest collection of original paintings for picture books in Japan. Works included are "Doro-ningen (Mud Man)" by Shinta Cho, "Zo-kun no sampo (Elephant Taking a Walk)" by Hirotaka Nakano, and many other popular books that everyone knows. In addition to 76 original illustrations, many picture books for people to pick up and read are on display.
