JAGDA (Japan Graphic Designers Assocation) is a 2,400-member design association that was formed in 1978. The largest of its kind, the association holds exhibitions and seminars and publishes the annual collection "Graphic Design in Japan" as well as design textbook "Visual Design" in an effort to improve daily life through design.

Every year, the "JAGDA Newcomer Award" is given to promising designers who are under 39 years old and have submitted works to "Graphic Design in Japan." 72 graphic designers have received this award to date, and most are active at the forefront of the design and advertising industries. This year's three artists were chosen out of 178 applicants.
