Kei Takemura "Even if we're not together"
This event has ended.
This exhibition is Berlin-based artist Kei Takemura's second solo exhibition with the gallery, and includes a new installation of four large works (100" x 127") comprised of two layers of embroidery and photograph/drawing, as well as small sculptures from the series "renovation."
For Takemura, the act of embroidery creates a "tentative" state. She considers her memory through an objective practice. This "tentative" state is the realized action of her thought that this state equals the present state of art. Her works represent a means to find beauty itself and also the relationship between a perspective and an environment.
When the line of light falling on a piece of work overlaps with the embroidery details' shadow, the memory of place is evoked through that image. The artist's memory does not consist of her memory but interrelated memories of others that gradually extend and evoke universal memories that may involve unknown people.
