The late Seiichiro Takahashi, former head of the National Art Center, the Tokyo National Museum, Keio University, and recipient of the Order of Culture, owned Hiroshige's infamous "53 Stations of the Tokaido" in his ukiyoe collection. This exhibition showcases all 55 reprinted editions as well as photos of the Tokaido today, catalogs, maps, and so on. There will also be a demonstration by the engraver who participated in the reprinting process, as well as an opportunity for visitors to try it out. Photos and texts portraying the life of the late Gihachiro Okuyama, who reprinted the 53 Stations in the Showa period, will also be shown. The history of the Tokyo Traditional Wood Engraving Craft Association will also be exhibited.
