Yasuhiro Ishimoto
This world-famous Japanese photographer has been taking pictures of people on the street corners of Shibuya for the past few years. In 2002 he started photographing people waiting for the light to change, from behind, at the busy Shibuya intersection from behind. Some of these works were displayed in exhibitions entitled "Street Corner" in 2003 and 2004, but on display at this exhibition are new works, including some taken this year.

Shibuya's street corners are gathering places, and people emerge seemingly out of nowhere. The faceless people's jackets and T-shirts are filled with words in foreign languages, animal prints, polka dots and fishnets, pictures, and a multitude of patterns. The artist has managed to photograph an impressive number of shots. The questions that he is constantly asking himself - what is the essence of a city? People? Design? Time? - can be felt in his works.

This exhibition is being held to mark the publication of the artist's photography collection, "Shibuya Shibuya." Approximately 60 black-and-white snapshots will be on display.
