"Prints from the Italian Renaissance" Exhibition

This event has ended.
At National Museum Of Western Art, Tokyo
Media: Prints

The Renaissance period is one of the highlights of Western art history, with many well-known paintings, sculptures, works of architecture and drawings coming from that time. Some may not be aware that the origin of printmaking also goes back to the Renaissance period. The Renaissance artists saw the possibilities in printmaking, applying it as an artistic technique, mainly to reproduce original paintings, and developed it into a key part of the Renaissance golden age.

This exhibition features 110 pieces of printmaking by Mantegna, Pollaiuolo, and other artists from the period. This is one of the first exhibitions that introduces a cohesive collection of Renaissance printmaking.
