This event has ended.

This exhibition will showcase new paintings and prints by Kyoto-based American contemporary artist Daniel Kelly. His career has produced an extensive, technically innovative, and influential body of work that is included in major museums around the world such as the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY MOMA, British Museum, and the Smithsonian. Kelly’s self-portrait entitled “Selfish” was awarded this year’s “Kyoto Mayor’s Prize for Best Painting (Western Art)” at the city’s annual Kyoten Exhibition.

Kelly takes photorealistic style in painting into uncharted territories, like an off-road adventure away from the canvas and into the hills, valleys and trenches of heavy collage creating complex three-dimensional surfaces sculpted from materials including the surface weave of Japanese tatami mats and handmade Nepalese paper.

Reception party on October 27th (Saturday) with special guest performances starting at 18:00.

Location: Annex A

From 2007-10-26 To 2007-10-28
