"Masterpieces from the Collection" Exhibition
This event has ended.
At Hiratsuka Museum of Art
Media: Painting
The fine climate around the Shounan area in Kanagawa has attracted many artists to set up their studios there since the Meiji era. The Hiratsuka Museum of Art has an extensive collection of the artists who originated from the area.
"Drawing Nature" is the theme of this exhibition and it features a wide range of landscape paintings. For example, Nihon-ga style landscape paintings with a modern touch were created in the Meiji era, and in the Taisho period, artists such as Ryosei Kishida and Yorozu Tetsugoro visited various spots around Shonan and created landscape paintings. Seiji Chokai's distictive paintings depicted the massiveness of the landscape, while some painters inserted their own psychological reflections to create illusionistic paintings.
A total of 42 landscape paintings from the museum collection are on view in order to introduce the various customs of the area.
