Ginza graphic gallery's (ggg) opening exhibition for 2008 will be “Toda Today Poster Art by Seiju Toda.” What sort of art is present in poster design? A single poster includes both lunacy and stillness, constructed to maintain their tension and balance. The immeasurable freedom of inspiration abounds there to create images of the inner heart that transcend the bounds of two-dimensional expression. This exhibition reconsiders Japanese poster art and knocks on the portals of uncharted possibilities by way of the creations of Seiju Toda, overflowing with adventure and surprise. The exhibition features around 80 posters, from his famous work for Suntory Royal to those for VIVRE, Isetan, AERA, the X-ray series, and the current focus of attention, the HEIAN series (now on a tour of cities in America and elsewhere).
