Kenjiro Kitade "Kitade Art"
This event has ended.
At hpgrp Gallery Tokyo
Media: Sculpture, Art Party
The director of hpgrp Gallery New York, Shuhei Yamatani first met this artist in the summer of 2000. This artist's work "Kidoairaku (Delight Anger Sorrow Pleasure)," comprising an angry face and laughing face arranged back-to-back, was memorable to him for its originality and the strong presence of "a message." As can be seen in his more recent works, this artist has transferred his expressive style from ceramics to sculptural and does not deliver strongly the traditional Japanese cultural concepts surrounding ceramics of types of clay and subtleties of the baked surface and coloring. Rather, he fully utilizes the texture, mystique, peace, beauty, fear and sadness of clay itself and communicates his message more effectively.
