Yasuhiro Ishimoto
Internationally renowned photographer Yasuhiro Ishimoto has taken a wide variety of photos in over half a century, and introduced them in the forms of photo books and exhibitions. Last year, a collection of his latest work, which captured back shots of people standing at Shibuya scramble crossing, was published as the photo book "Shibuya, Shibuya", and was later exhibited. Through both the book and exhibition, Ishimoto's incisiveness in formative esthesia was proved to be present and still evolving.

During his more-than-half-a-century career, "Tokyo" has always been Ishimoto's base. After living in Chicago during his school days, Ishimoto came back to Japan in 1953 and started living in Tokyo, exploring the city and take photographs just as he did in Chicago. Then, after going back to Chicago for 3 years, he came back to Tokyo in 1961, continuing to portray Tokyo and its denizens he encountered through a lens.

"While there are various kinds of photographs, what they depict are simple human activities and aspects of their lives" says the artist. Tokyo went through a sea change in the postwar era, and it's still changing. Ishimoto's work, embracing Tokyo's alleys, pedestrians, buildings and empty spaces, reflects his sincere attitude of always accepting present. Over 60 photographs, taken from the 1950s up until present, will reveal Ishimoto's stance as a photographer and the world he creates with the medium.
