Toru Tajima found out about art school in a magazine that he read in his late teens. Inspired, he started taking classes at a miniature painting school. Although many students there chose natural history and botany as subjects for their work, Tajima's focus was a bit different. That was how his work attracted attention as "painting" and brought him opportunities to hold solo exhibitions.
Dots of watercolor carefully applied onto the canvas with an ultra-fine brush. This is the basis of the painstaking process required to complete one work. "While what I do is simply 'painting from life', there is a moment when that painting stands on its own and drifts into another dimension. I would like to keep moving forward, taking that kind of sensation as a cue," says Tajima.
This is his first solo exhibition at this venue in 6 years.
