David Schmidlapp
Renowned New York fine artist David Schmidlapp is holding a two-day only exhibition at Calm and Punk. Schmidlapp is a documentary photographer who has been based in NYC since the 1970s, capturing the best moments of the dawn of hiphop in the city. After beginning his career at a Soho community paper, he founded the world's first specialist magazine devoted to graffiti, Igtimes, in 1984. Recently, Schmidlapp's work has garnered renewed attention, especially "Ali-Warhol", taken during Muhammad Ali's encounter with Andy Warhol in 1977, which was exhibited at Marc Jacobs in NYC.
