"Shapes of 'Arewa' (Happiness) - African Sculptures Donated by Takako Maoka" Exhibition

"Arewa" is a Nigerian word meaning "happiness." Takako Maoka lived there for 7 years since 1972 for her husband's business. During her stay, she traveled to various areas in Nigeria, visiting craft studios and shops and collecting ceramics, clothes, jewelry, sculptures and many kinds of crafted objects. Her collection ranges from decorative objects to items for daily use. From a total of 600 items she collected, this exhibition presents around 400 works showcasing various pieces of "happiness" she collected.
