This new century has seen the rapid infiltration of the Internet in all corners of the globe and the resultant virtual criss-crossing field of information racing through its circuits. This has allowed the crossing of various national borders and the defiance of certain localized restrictions in a system that allows the entire world to be connected within an instant. In the past, those who performed this connective function were itinerant photographers who traveled the world with a nomadic frame of mind, going back and forth among the world's cities. They possessed a similar interconnectivity, reflecting an uncanny sense of solidarity with the inhabitants of places they passed through, transferring something of the spirit of the time and local color and atmosphere into their photographs. What they all shared in common was a certain temporal continuity that traversed and negotiated between past, present and future, and an intuitive sense for seeking out a universal, human emotional resonance.
