Taira has spent 10 years living in the Belgian capital of Brussels since 1995, taking photographs of the lives of its people. Belgium has a surface area roughly equal to that of Kyushu and a population of about 10 million - tiny compared to the two large countries of France and Germany it is surrounded by. Its capital, Brussels, has been called the crossroads of Europe since ancient times, and it is a quintessentially international city, playing host to the main offices of both the EU and NATO. On the other hand, it is also a city with a gentle and leisurely pace of life, one that prompted Taira to relook his own modes of living. While Brussels does not pretend to aspire towards the position of a larger and perhaps more influential country like France, its residents have a certain pride and maturity that is underwritten by the city's grand history.
On display are 30 original prints of Taira's monochrome works.
