Artists

Ihei Kimura
This photographer was born in Tokyo in 1901 and took interest in cameras since playing with a toy box camera as a child. He later became an amateur, then professional photographer and was influential in Japanese photography along with Ken Domon before and after World War II. Although he is extremely famous for being an expert of the Lyca camera, he also forged a new path in press photography along with Younosuke Natori. After having an influential meeting with Henri Cartier-Bresson in 1951 though, he also released numerous snapshot series that did not pertain exclusively to journalism photography.

This exhibition follows Shadai Gallery's first exhibition by this artist, "Europe/China," held a year ago, and features the "Street Corner" and "Akita" series. 50 black and white photographs are on display.
