SphinkS are a group of contemporary visual installation artists who experiment with avant-garde art by questioning what constitutes "visual art." In other words, they are travelers who try to connect with the spirit of place, Genius Loci, by developing site-specific installations on "holy" grounds.

In their first solo exhibition, SphinkS succeeded in self-recognizing their position as video artists and realizing with their original interpretation the raison d'etre of video and sound in the form of an interactive device. In an attempt to search for deeper human psyche, they introduced in their second show the future-oriented experience-storing device "Mayumi", which was capable of transmitting to the public the viewer's experience in real time with the use of sensors set in an exhibition space that converted the experience into video and sound and fed them back to the viewer's mind.

What SphinkS aims to tackle in their third exhibition is the "border" between issues they dealt with in their first and second: self-recognition and its contact with the external world.

Self and others. An object and others. Self and an object. SphinkS will capture ubiquitously-existing "that side and this side" through their new and past works.
