The Japan Design Committee is hosting an exhibition entitled "Matsuya and Good Design, Its Activities and the Japan Design Committee" to celebrate Matsuya's winning the Mainichi Design Award special prize.

Since the mid 1950s, Matsuya and the Japan Design Committee have ventured and executed various novel ideas together in an effort to promote the spread of sound design practices in society. The "Design Collection Salesroom" on the 7th floor of Matsuya's Ginza location, which opened in 1955 as a pioneering design store, is ground zero for this mission. The presence of the Salesroom has been so influential that people now automatically associate Matsuya with its design collection. Additionally, Design Gallery, which opened in 1964, has also played an important role in Matsuya's design activities, holding countless exhibitions that introduced all kinds of design to the general public.

This exhibition introduces the unsung design missionary work that Matsuya accomplished in Tokyo over the past half-century. A variety of documents, photographs and messages from the present members of the Design Committee will be on display.
