The Autumn Exhibition of the printmaking department was first held in 1975 as "Autumn Shunyo Print Exhibition" (renamed the "Shunyokai Printmaking Department Autumn Exhibition" starting from 1978) separate from the 52nd edition of the spring exhibition. This was started with the objective of improving creativity and technique among members.
Since 2004, the exhibition has been traveling around galleries throughout the country, introducing the work of the association while winning new fans to printmaking and the society alike. In addition, workshops and seminars are held at the various venues, and works created by friends of the society who live in the areas where Shunyokai exhibits have been on display as well since 2005. In this way, the Autumn exhibition has become an important platform for communication and exchange for the printmaking department.
