We are pleased to announce the opening of this exhibition by Yasuyoshi Botan, an artist who works with a great diversity of media, such as installation, children's books, performance and painting.
A little girl appears in Botan's mind when he is working on his painting. She walks into the forest because she knows there is something she really wants, even though she is not sure what it is. She walks into it to search it out, to find what her desire is. It is too easy to assume that she is Botan’s alter ego. Botan captures faint, dreram-like scenes from a bird's-eye view. There is something that suggests another point of view besides the girl’s, even though she doesn't appear in the scene herself. Botan shows us a rendition of extreme existence by spreading fragments of a story. Is it God? or something more than that....
Botan describes the forest as “darkness, fear, absolute power." It plays the role of “time” in his story, which is a symbol of life and death. Various motifs continually transform into others on the canvas, suggesting the unstoppable and relentless passage of time.
