Taku Sato
The Yusaku Kamekura prize was established in 1999 to recognize the achievements of this graphic designer who passed away suddenly in 1997, and also to contribute to the development of the graphic design world. The prize is administered and decided on by the Japan Graphic Designers Association (JAGDA), and the prize is awarded to the best entry among those works submitted to the annual "Graphic Design in Japan" publication.
This is the 10th time the award has been presented, and the recipient is Taku Sato, in recognition of his work for his VI, poster and exhibition design for the "Water" exhibition at the 21-21 Design Sight Museum.
Sato is active in a wide range of design activities, including product design for Lotte Mint gum, Meiji milk, NTT DoCoMo P701iD, museum VI design, art direction and planning for NHK educational programming. For the 21-21 Design Sight Museum "Water" exhibition held from October 5th, 2007 until January 14th, 2008, Sato led a team of cultural anthropologists, photographers, lighting designers and other professionals, heading research activities and leading discussions in order to mount the exhibition. The award is presented to Sato in recognition of his skillful handling and direction of the difficult "Water" exhibition theme, his influence on exhibition goers, and groundbreaking work that stretches the possibilities of design as a profession.
