Maruyama's photography exhibition "Fiori" (flowers) enchanted over 40,000 viewers from all over the world at the 50th Venice Biennale held in 2003. The images in his work are generated from natural morning light. After shooting photographs of selected flowers at his atelier in Milan, Maruyama brought them to a photography laboratory in Europe and carefully printed by hand. This fastidious attitude and technique is characteristic of his work, in which transient nature and an exuberant sense of vitality coexist with each other.
