Takayoshi Totoki is well known for his series of personified rabbits. After graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts, Totoki moved to the U.S. After coming back to Japan, he worked on producing paintings, including the large-scale "Phoenix", onto which black paint was boldly applied. It was when he displayed his smaller works with images of rabbits wearing red shoes that Totoki started his "Usagi (rabbit)" series. Not satisfied with only 2D modes of expression, he has since extended this project into 3D versions. Since moving to Fujinomiya City in Shizuoka Prefecture about 15 years ago, he has been fully involved in wood carving, and now has his atelier at the foot of Mt. Fuji.

Visitors are invited to try sitting on these rabbit-shaped chairs. You will be surprised to find out how comfortable they are!
