Comment by the artist
"Paper models existed in Japan even during the Edo and Meiji Periods. Some were 3D models, just like the paper models of today, while others were diorama-like displays featuring samurai warriors, etc, from kabuki plays. This small exhibition presents, with the kind permission of the owners, approximately ten Meiji era paper works assembled from full-sized copies of the original prints. Everyone is welcome to view and hopefully be enchanted by what is now a forgotten part of Japanese culture, but which once was a popular pastime known as Tatebanko."
