This exhibition presents a total of 50 films and video works created by artists from America, Europe and Japan from the 1960s to today.

Nowadays, we rarely see a contemporary art exhibition that doesn't include video art. In order to understand this tendency and appreciate video works, it is important to acknowledge the early film and video works created in the 60s and 70s. This is the first comprehensive exhibition to be held in Japan, where such significant works are on view all at once.

Furthermore, this exhibition presents pioneering video art from the 60s and 70s along with contemporary works by those currently exploring the possibilities of video as an artistic medium. Viewing these works from different time periods, certain tendencies and common threads are revealed. From works that take advantage of the low-tech quality of video, to works that come across as a subtle intervention rather than an extravagant spectacle, to works that are process-oriented, similar approaches have been made by artists from different generations.

This is a must see exhibition for those who are interested in contemporary art, those who are interested in the culture of the 60s and 70s, and those who want to remain critical in today's information overload. Make sure to set aside enough time for it!

You can check out a video introduction to the exhibition on YouTube.
