"Touching the Images" Exhibition
This event has ended.
For many people, "pictures" used to only refer to photographs that are taken with a film camera, but nowadays, "pictures" exist in wide-ranging forms, from digital photography, cell phone pictures, to digital images created by the computer technology. One thing in common for all the mediums is that they have to be seen to be recognized.
Photographs are a type of communication tool to share memories with people. If a picture could exist as a three dimensional medium, it would enable us to communicate in a larger context, because the act of taking photographs is a way of having a dialogue with others.
From November to December in 2008, Seikatsukobo worked with the junior high school students at Kugayama School for the Blind. With support of a group of graphic designers, embossed three dimensional photographs were created from the pictures taken by the students. The photographs became a tool for them to perceive what the camera captured.
