Photography, which was invented in the 19th century, has had a wide-ranging influence on visual culture. This exhibition examines aspects of its impact in Japan. The establishment and development of modern Japanese photography are reconsidered by comparing photography with various media such as oil painting, nihonga, and printmaking.
