Ota Fine Arts is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Hiraki Sawa.

Sawa has been creating scenes that look natural, but in fact belong nowhere and seem to be fictive: tiny fragment of space, like a corner of a room or the edge of a bathtub. Recently, he has been attempting to turn familiar, ordinary sights into something uncanny and dissimulative by cutting off parts of real scenery and creating from them a world made up of imaginary spaces.

This exhibition, Sawa's 3rd in 4 years, features his newest video works and two related installations. A room will be set up in the gallery space, demonstrating the artist’s concepts directly to viewers. Ordinary objects such as an old clock or a map of the moon will act as keys for viewers to negotiate this strange place lodged between reality and fantasy. In this way, viewers will be able to experience the sensation of being “somewhere": a place that Sawa has been seeking, located beyond the realm of physical spaces.
