"It Is What It Is" Exhibition
This event has ended.
This exhibition showcases 1000 design concepts developed by multidisciplinary New York-based design studio 2x4 over the past 15 years. The concepts attempt to convey to audiences the universality, diversity and depth of the discipline within the context of design culture and the product design process. In addition, there will be a shop selling limited edition products that have been designed specially for this exhibition.
It's funny when you give an engaging, award-winning design firm a vanity exhibition and they go and treat it as such- vapid, airy vanity, devoid of content or reason.
Essentially, this is 1000 screenshots of old work, presented without any form of context whatsoever. These 1000 screenshots were made into a book.
Then they designed some eco-bags, too.
However, they did design some not very intriguing posters, and those are free to the public. So at least you walk away feeling like you've only been halfway cheated. At least the poster is big, if not formally interesting.
2x4 phoned this one in, essentially. Pretty sad in terms of effort and execution. I expected better, as one should, given their catalog of work.
Overall, it seems like they put their intern to work on this one and that the principals diverted their attention to paying work in lieu of this exhibition.
