Base Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition featuring new works by Keisuke Shirota.

Compared with his past two shows, Shirota's technique here of arbitrarily selecting a landscape, arranging an unfocused photograph onto his canvas and filling it the surrounding area with black and white paint has remained the same. Shirota's expressive power lies in the gap that intervenes between the fierce clash between the power of photography to convey a sense of verisimilitude and painting's ability to harness imaginary depictions. These iterations of paintings and photographs are perhaps a representation of our existence and outlook on life in how they fuse a certain surrender to media with the humanity of painting.

Since his solo exhibition in Cologne in 2008, Base Gallery and Grambooks, looking back on his past works, have been working on his catalogue raisonne, and it will be published during the exhibition.
