Many stone Buddhas and stupas, along with various festivals and folk ceremonies still survive today on the Kunisaki Peninsula, passed down and transmitted from one generation to the next. This was where the ancient Buddhist culture known as Rokugo Manzan flourished more than a thousand years ago, and grew to become the birthplace of Japanese culture. Over 60 Tendai Buddhist temples were built here, most of which still stand today, receiving prayers and offerings from groups of worshipers. In addition, countless sacred spots, such as ascetic training grounds and dwelling places of deities, lie scattered in the mountains. The base of Kunisaki Peninsula is also where the head temple of the Hachiman faith, Usa Jingu, is located.

This exhibition is an attempt to give expression to the faith and spirit that is engraved in the genes of the Japanese people as a link to layers of history and ancient culture.
