To mark the 30th anniversary of “Ars Electronica,” an international media art festival held in Linz, Austria, MOT will hold a special exhibition of creations from the fields of art, technology, science, and media art in Japan. Ars Electronica has close bonds with Japan because of the numerous Japanese artists who have taken part and received awards in the festival since its founding in 1979, including Isao Tomita, Ryuichi Sakamoto & Toshio Iwai, and Maywa Denki. Many of the creations such artists have produced for the festival will be featured in this exhibition. Through participation-oriented interactive works, workshops, and video showings, the exhibition will explore new possibilities for expression in science technology, society and art, including new hybrid territories such as space art.

The scale of the exhibits expands in the museum's atrium, which resembles a Terry Gilliam film set: a small silver blimp carries an aerial camera that affords an out-of-body experience; a tall chimney spurts bursts of paper snowflakes; and a giant transparent figure, suspended upside down, looms over everything.
