Previously known simply as “Ogi”, the Tokyo born-and-bred artist Ryuichi Ogino received his BFA from the California College of Arts & Crafts in 2004. Working in a range of media that includes paper-clay toy figures, acrylic paint and wood, Ogino continues to exhibit work both domestically and internationally.

The term “mash-up” is a technique used to run different music tracks as one, creating a completely different composition. Living in an era where various issues, ideas and thoughts overlap, Ogino shows a hybrid perspective through his work. Neither affirming nor denying the complexity and variation in values, he portrays different aspects of art without hierarchy, an approach that unchains viewers from genres and categories. Ogino aims to create an atmosphere where viewers can concentrate on the fundamental details of the works and evaluate only what they see.
