Minoru Kawabata was born in Tokyo in 1911 to an artistic family: his grandfather was the nihonga painter Tamaaki Kawabata, while his father Shigeaki was also a Japanese-style painter. He has won acclaim not only within Japan, but also exhibited to wide acclaim at the 2nd Guggenheim International Exhibition, the 5th Sao Paolo Biennale and more. This exhibition, Kawabata's first in 19 years, showcases some 45 oil paintings including representative works from his postwar period.
