Tadanori Yokoo is one of the most famous Japanese graphic designers and illustrators, who left a highly distinctive mark on the Sixties and Seventies. In 1981 he switched to painting and his international activities grew more and more. He continues to work feverishly.

This exhibition is the first to feature book designs by Yokoo, including completed books, idea sketches, prints and galley proofs.

八百万の芸術神の如くあらゆる対象の瞬間を永遠と化す魔術の数々。その種明かしの氷山の一角に触れることができる(と勘違いできる)展示。氏の戦歴たる作品群をひたすら浴びていると、現代のグラフィック界がいかに貧弱になってしまったかが見えてくる。ただ黙って定型に施されたバイタリティ溢れる仕事を浴びているだけで、自作に閉塞しているデザイナーの不毛な限界点を「脳を通さず」ぶち壊してくれるだろう。高倉健、三島由紀夫、浅丘ルリ子に媚を売らない、各名作もあらためて素晴らしい。
