poster for Crafts of the Ainu

This event has ended.

The Ainu of Hokkaido and surrounding areas revered nature as a deity and also believed objects created by humans to possess spiritual properties. Clothing, wooden tools, and other implements of daily life bear unique and striking folk patterns. This exhibit offers a glimpse into the mystical nature of Ainu crafts with around 100 items including jewelry and woodwork pieces such as sword sheathes and ceremonial tools.
