You Reach Out – Right Now – For Something: Questioning the Concept of Fashion
This event has ended.
This is an exhibition based on Nakako Hayashi’s book Expanding Fashion (Space Shower Networks) published in 2011. Hayashi worked as an editor for Shiseido’s culture magazine Hanatsubaki in the 1990s and later became independent, promoting fashion and art mainly through her own magazine “here and there”. In Expanding Fashion, she introduces the new movements which have developed in the world of fashion and associated fields since the mid-1990s onwards and her introduction to vibrant activities of various artists has gained much critical acclaim. This exhibition based on Hayashi’s book, examines fashion from the aspect of creation. Regarding fashion as an instrument for developing aesthetics in everyday life, and for communicating our own way of living and thinking to others, the exhibition will present the works of artists, practicing across Japan and internationally, that employ diverse methods ranging from independent publishing to photography, painting, video, performance and workshops to create things with a unique relation to fashion.
