Japanese-Style Bound Notebooks From Tohoku

Creation Gallery G8
Finished
For this project, 187 creators designed covers for notebooks made with traditional Japanese bookbinding techniques by persons with disabilities working in Tohoku. The paper used in the notebooks is “b7 Bulky,” a special type developed and produced at Nippon Paper’s factory in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, which was heavily damaged by the March, 2011 tsunami. All 187 varieties of these unique notebooks influenced by traditional Japanese crafts are on display and for sale.
