This event has ended.
Momoyo Iijma has consistently made “family memories” a theme throughout much of her work. Some of these works are comprised of formerly used dining utensils embedded in house-shaped sculptures made of paraffin wax. Exposed in cross-sections at the surface of the wax, these become symbols of fading community and familial ties, and of the increasing rarification of connections characteristic of modern society. Iijima’s taciturn works bring up many and various “family memories,” while at the same time commenting on the nature of home and the family today.
