This event has ended.
Hisachika Takahashi by Yuki Okumura spotlights the unusual career of this little-known Japanese artist (b. 1940) – a collaborator first with Lucio Fontana in Italy, from 1962 onwards, and later with Robert Rauschenberg in New York, from 1969 until the latter’s death in 2008. Takahashi produced a number of works in collaboration with both artists, and achieved critical acclaim in his own right. Working directly with Takahashi, Yuki Okumura invites us to rediscover his oeuvre through new works exploring a distinctive artistic legacy.
The show at Le Forum includes a video work showing Okumura interviewed in the persona of Hisachika Takahashi. The latter’s memories are projected through Okumura’s own practice, offering an unashamedly poetic perspective on Takahashi’s work. The resulting dialogue highlights the extent to which art remains open to new contexts and interpretations. By appropriating the images and memories of others, the history of art can be revisited and rewritten. Born in Japan in 1978, Yuki Okumura lives and works in Brussels and Maastricht.
